All about Cub Kiara!

 Name: Kiara

Meaning: Kiara is a girl`s name used in English, it is an alternate form of the girl`s name Ciara. It`s source is "Ciar." Ciar is used in English and Irish Gaelic, it means "Black." However, in Italian, the word Kiara means "Light."

Birthplace: Pride Rock, Pride Lands

Position in the pride: Crown princess by birth

Eye colour: Brown

 Fur colour: Golden orange

Mother: Nala

Father: Simba

Sibling: A male cub named Kopa appears in a book series called The Lion King: Six New Adventures. He is the first-born cub of Nala and Simba. The cub shown at the end of TLK is believed to be male,  but the cubs gender was changed to female in the beginning of SP, in order for the plot/storyline to work out. Kopa is never mentioned by name in any of the movies. No explanation to Kopas disappearance has been given by Disney.

Mate: Kovu

Cubs: None

Living relatives: Besides her parents, none of Kiaras relatives are shown in SP. Her grandmothers. Sarafina and Sarabi are believed to have died in the time past between the two movies. The voice talent of Sarabi (Madge Sinclair) passed away before SP was made, it is still unclear if Sarabi would have made an apperance if Sinclair was still alive. The voice talent of Sarafina (Zoe Leader) is listed in the credits for SP, and some belive she is the lioness who says "My how you`ve grown" to Kiara when she goes on her first hunt. The lioness who says this line looks nothing like Sarafina in TLK however.

Kiaras Personality

 Joyful, loving, positive, playful, kind.

Kiara has a warm heart and likes to help others. As a cub, she is very playful and curious. As an adult, she is loving, wise, kind and brave. It is the love and strong bond that Kiara and Kovu share that helps to bring the Outlanders and Pridelanders back together.

Cub Kiara vs. Cub Simba

They both went outside the borders of the Pride Lands, to dangerous places. Simba went to the Elephant Graveyard, Kiara to the Outlands.

Simba going to the Elephant Graveyard was a part of Scar`s plan to kill him, but it was clear in the movie that he wanted to go there from the second Mufasa told him about it. Scar just gave him the final push to drive him to action. Simba defied his father in an attempt to show his bravery, to show Mufasa that he could be just like him.

Kiara went to the Outlands of pure curiousity. It`s hard to tell if Simba had told her about it before the scene on Pride Rock where he gives her the safety - lecture. It seems like he has told her about it before, the part about the Outlands seems like a standard addition to the rest of the lecture. Kiara doesn`t seem very curious or interested, so it seems like she has heard it all before. The only thing she enquires about, is Simbas remark: "You can`t turn your back on them."
When Kiara eventually reaches the border of the Pride Lands, and discovers the Outlands, she is overwhelmed by curiousity. In my opinion, Timon and Pumbaa gave Kiara the final push that drove her across the border. (Like Scar did with Simba.) When Timon and Pumbaa arrive at the scene, it doesn`t seem like Kiara has decided to go to the Outlands, but bored and frustrated at her babysitters, Kiara decides to sneak away for a little exitement and adventure.

Simba took Nala with him to the Elephant Graveyard, putting her life (as well as his own and Zazus) in grave danger.

Kiara went to the Outlands alone. No other cubs from the Pride are shown in the movie, Kiara is never seen playing with any other cubs besides Kovu.

Simba hated his babysitter Zazu and ran away from him.

Kiara can`t stand her babysitters/bodyguards, Timon and Pumbaa. She runs away from them numerous times throughout the movie.

Cub Kiara vs. Cub Nala

They both use special tricks to defeat their opponents.

Nala uses her back - flip to pin Simba when they playfight.

Kiara makes sure not to turn her back on Kovu, because of her father told her that you cannot turn your back on an Outlander.

They are both separated from their cubhood friend until they grow into young adults.

Nala was told that Simba is dead, when he is really in exile.

Kiara was forbidden to go the Outlands, so she couldn`t see Kovu. Even if she did return to the Outlands to try and meet him again, the chances of Kovu being close enough to the border in order for Kiara to find him, are rather slim. (It`s not like Kiara would be able to call Kovu on his mobile and arrange a meeting.)

Norwegian: With all this hustle and bustle, can I be myself, the way I am? Can I trust in my soul, or am I a part of this plan?

Swedish: Everyone knows how I`m supposed to be, but I just want to be me, exactly who I am. Can I be the one I want, or does my will exist mostly to trouble?

Icelandic: If I`m this important, will I still get to be myself forever and now? Do I decide myself what can happen, or am I just a pawn dependant to an upper power?

Danish: With the path that I have to go will I still get to do everything I want? Can my heart give me answers, can it tell me if I have what it takes?

Finnish: If they demand so much, will I ever be able to be just me? Is this how I follow my feelings, or am I just a part of the world now?

German: Should I trust my heart, or build my life to this plan? A great Queen, if I am such a thing.

Dutch: If I really have to be all of that, can I still be the way I am then? Can I rely on myself, or am I part of something which I do not know?

European Spanish: Tell me how I must live to be me and to obey the clan`s law. Can I trust myself, or am I just spoiling some big plan?

Italian: I already know my choice, and I will be myself by my way. The plan of life has already been carving my road.

Russian: It is very hard to explain how much I want to be the way I am. Is there something I can choose, or is it all fated?

Latin/Mexican Spanish: There is so much I must learn that I could lose my identity. I would like to trust myself, or am I part of a plan that directs me?

Bulgarian: How will I cope with this big duty? I don`t know, not even for a moment. Do I actually have any power, or am I just a part of a great plan?

Polish: So many tasks are waiting for me, so who does know it? I have to be myself. How to listen a heart when I  have to live good with this from now to live with order?

Japanese: My future that someone will decide because in my heart do I live uselessly?

Brazillian: If there is so much to learn, I just want to live like I am. Follow my heart or listen the reason whereever I go.

Cantonese: Can I really do it, handling the things in the world, follow what I want? Will my heart be willing to get this character I care with it.

My characterprofile of Kiara:

Kiara is very playful and curious. She loves to explore, eventhough she`s not allowed to venture far off in the Pride Lands. She is also mischievous, she disobeys her father and goes to the Outlands! The reason Simba is so overprotective of his daughter, is mainly that he loves her, and want her to be safe.

But it has also something to do with Simbas past, and his firstborn cub, who died. Simba and Nala had a male cub named Kopa. He died when he was a young cub. How it happened, no one knows. Simba did not have much time to spend with his son because of his duties, so Kopa ventured off on his own a lot.

In fact, Nala was the more protective one of the two parents!

So I belive that Simba somehow blames himself for Kopas death, that he thinks that if he only was more protective of him, he wouldnt have died.

And so, because of the fear of losing Kiara and experience devastating loss once again, Simba sends Timon and Pumbaa to watch her, and he spends a lot of time with her. With Kopa, Simba sometimes had to break his promises, but its quite clear he never does that with Kiara. Nala, however, seems to have realized that being overprotective of her cub does not lead to anything good.

Kiara loves to have fun! She does`nt like the idea of becoming a queen, because she thinks it is too much responsibilty, and that she`ll never have a chance to relax and have a good time. She hates the idea of being born into a role, to have this weight of having to lead a kingdom resting upon her shoulders from cubhood.

This is easy to understand when you listen to the line she sings in We Are One: "If there`s so much I must be, can I still just be me, the way I am? Can I trust in my own heart, or am I just one part of some big plan?"

Kiara seem to dislike it when Simba tells her that she is a part of the Circle of Life, and must find her own place within it. The reason could of course be that she has heard her father talk about this numerous times before, but I think the main reason is that Kiara doesnt like the thought of having her path in life decided for her. As a cub, Simba was extremly exited about becoming king, he looked at it as a chance to do whatever he wanted. Kiara, however, looks at it from the opposite angle.

The first time I saw the movie, I didnt really like Kiara because she seemed silly and spoiled. But after watching the movie several times, I grew to like her. She is not stupid, just pure-minded and a bit naive. She is true to her family and loved ones, she stands up for what she believes in. As she becomes older, she also grows more wise.
